SOMETIME TWO OUT OF THREE'S NOT BAD

What does a self-professed BBQ addict do when they have too much free time on their hands?

GO ON A ROAD TRIP!!!

So I hopped on the intarweb and start charting a path. First stop is going to be the BBQ Barn in Minco, Oklahoma.

It's not quite located at the address I found on the intarweb but fortunately Minco isn't a very big town. So it didn't take us long to find them. I ordered a two meat combo, chopped beef & pulled pork, and added a rib with potato salad and baked beans for myself and a sliced brisket sandwich for my wife.

For the price the portions were huge. You can't see the pulled pork in this picture because it was covered up by that big rib. I did however make a very rookie mistake. I forgot to ask if the chopped beef was sauced.

I don't like my meat sauced. I want that decision to be left up to me as you can tell by those two containers of sauce I ordered on the side. If you like your chop beef sauced you will probably like this. It wasn't bad just not my preference.

The pulled pork was more shredded than pulled and was kind of dry. I only ate a couple of bites of it and those were mixed with the beans.

They were very generous with the rib and it had a good flavor but was a little overcooked and falling apart.

The beans were also nothing special but I really enjoyed the potato salad. It was large pieces of new potato in a creamy mustard & mayo sauce. I'd never had a potato salad quite like it but I liked it.

The sliced brisket was pretty much your typical Okie Brisket. Void of any fat, flavor, or color. Maybe that's why they sauce the chopped beef because we really didn't eat much of this.

The BBQ Barn was doing a pretty brisk business while I was there and the owners were really friendly but the BBQ was just your standard fare. I can't recommend going out of your way to try the BBQ Barn. Other than the potato salad I was underwhelmed.

The second stop was to be Roy's Bar-B-Q in Chickasha, Oklahoma. I say was because Roy's was closed for vacation.... DOH!!!

I loved the look of the building. It's what I look for in a Q-raunt and I can't wait to try it.

Since Roy's was closed we stopped at Dairy Queen and I consoled myself with a Peanut Buster Parfait. There are no Dairy Queens left in Oklahoma City so we usually only get to treat ourselves at the DQ when we are in Texas.

Last stop of the day is KT's Smokehouse in Blanchard, Oklahoma.

I usually shy away from places like K.T's since they are more of a full menu restaurant serving burgers, steaks, catfish and what not but I didn't know that before hand and I was there. So we stopped and gave it a shot.

I was still full from the Peanut Buster Parfait so I ordered a two meat combo, ribs and pulled pork, with okra and tater tots. This also came with some really big yeast rolls with cinnamon butter.

The pulled pork wasn't pulled pork at all. It may have come from the shoulder but it was more chopped into cubes pork that hadn't been cooked long enough to render all the fat because I got a rather unpleasant bite of cubed fat. Now I like fat but it needs some meat mixed with it. On the plus side the pork did have a pretty good flavor but pulled pork it was not.

These untrimmed spareribs were big and meaty and lightly glazed with a sweet sauce and had a pretty good flavor. And as you can see from the pic below they even managed to pass the bite test.

The meat pulled away from the bone where I bit it with just a slight tug but when I got to the end of the rib it was tough as a boot. I'm not sure how they managed to cook an almost perfect rib on one end and an almost inedible rib on the other end but they did it. If not for that I could have probably said these were ribs I would drive back to Blanchard for..... But probably not.
